Advisory Councils

cThe California Exposition & State Fair has three advisory councils addressing the areas of Culture, Art and Agriculture. These advisory bodies are established by the Board of Directors to enhance the outreach efforts of the Board and staff in the communities it serves throughout the State. The Council members advise the Board on matters pertaining to multi-cultural, youth, agricultural and art programs related to education, entertainment and other activities at the annual California State Fair, and they support Board objectives to showcase a broad range of activities during the annual State Fair as well as throughout the year at Cal Expo.

In addition to the three councils, the Board may appoint sub-committees to the Cultural Advisory Council when there are more than three interested and qualified individuals from a particular cultural population.

cYouth Task Force
Youth play an important role at the California State Fair as evidenced by the Youth Task Force. Through this organization, interested youth, aged 14 and older, are given an opportunity to provide volunteer assistance prior to and during the State Fair.

Youth Task Force duties may include assisting judges, exhibit check in/out, clerking and coordinating demonstrations and judging programs. Youth volunteers work in the areas of livestock (beef, sheep, swine, rabbits, cavies) or still exhibits (arts, crafts, metalworking and photography).

cThe Youth Task Force is a fun way to participate in the California State Fair while enhancing a resume or scholarship application, or receiving school credit. Each Task Force member receives a certificate of participation and is invited to a special Fair time thank you event with their fellow volunteers.

To become a member of the Youth Task Force, students must submit a completed application form by June 15, 2007 . For more information please contact Cottie Johnson at cjohnson@calexpo.com or 916-263-3045. Interested students may also write to California State Fair, c/o Youth Taskforce, Cottie Johnson, P.O.
